About Me
My name is Jeff Snyder, I am 5’11” and weigh 155lbs, I enjoy long walks… Just kidding! Here’s a little about me…
I grew up with two brothers and my parents in a suburb outside of St. Paul, Minnesota. I attended Woodland Elementary and Tesseract School for elementary school. After 6th grade, I enrolled and attended St. Thomas Academy. Throughout this time, I played hockey and participated in downhill skiing, golf, fishing, and orienteering. I graduated from STA in the spring of 2001, and I graduate from the University of Oklahoma in May 2005, majoring in Meteorology and minoring in Mathematics (yes, I am a geek). In 2008, I finished my Masters degree, and I am currently working on my Ph.D. at the University of Oklahoma. Since 2005, I've been working with Dr. Howie Bluestein (my advisor) and using data from the UMass X-band, dual-polarimetric mobile radar.
My real hobby, which I started in 1998, is storm chasing. To facilitate this, I have purchased radios, an anemometer, a television, a hand-held lightning detector, and, yes, more radios. Additionally, in 1999, I obtained my Technician Certification in amateur radio, though I'm not actively involved in ham radio aside from chasing. My call sign is KC0HJX, although I hope to change it sometime to something a little easier to say quickly.
